Sanskrit (Saṃskṛta) is the language of yoga. It might seem intimidating at first, yet it is deceptively approachable and available - especially when we understand that learning just a little can add a lot to the yoga experience.
This workshop offers a light, respectful introduction to this ancient and influential language. We'll explore how even a basic understanding of a Sanskrit yoga pose name can enrich our personal practice and create a more connected experience for those sharing our classrooms with us.
Learn a little about how languages shape each other, how to decode familiar āsana (pose) names found in yoga books, texts or on-line and how to feel at ease saying a few traditional pose names in class. Spoiler alert: if you already say Śavāsana (shuh-VAH-suh-nuh) when inviting participants into relaxation, you are teaching in Sanskrit!
Absolutely no linguistical talent required. Just bring an open mind, a sense of adventure, curiosity, plus an interest in exploring another facet of yoga's amazing history.
This in-person workshop offers 3 Yoga Alliance and/or BCRPA continuing education credits.
Fee includes training material and ongoing connection.
Requirement: Yoga Fitness Module (BCRPA) and/or RYT® 200 (Yoga Alliance) or equivalent training/ teaching experience.
